During the month of October, AfriForum's North Bellville and surrounding neighbourhood watches launched a significant security operation in the area. On the 22nd of October, a massive patrol, vehicle check-point, and foot patrols, in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies and security organizations, were conducted to enhance visible policingand overall safety. Furthermore, a general patrol was carried out on the 28thof October, just ahead of the World Cup final.
According to Johan Crous, AfriForum's district coordinator for the West Coast, these various neighbourhood watches demonstrated their commitment to a safer community through these activities.
The October security operations included the following elements:
Group Patrol: Members of Bellville and neighbouring area neighbourhood watches joined forces for a group patrol, proactively addressing security issues in the area.
Vehicle Check-point : A comprehensive vehicle check-point was established to ensure compliance with traffic rules and deter criminal activities. Fines totalling nearly R30,000 were issued at this check-point, and a suspect was apprehended during the operation for drug possession andtheft from a motor vehicle.
Foot Patrol: Community members patrolled Bellville's central business district and the Voortrekker corridor on foot.
"The operations were extremely successful, and the cooperation between the community, the South African Police Service (SAPS), the City of Cape Town's metropolitan police and traffic department, as well as various security companies, demonstrates the necessity and success of an integrated security approach," explained Crous.
AfriForum extends its gratitude to all law enforcement organizations and the following security companies and organizations, which played a pivotal role in the success of these security operations: Civil Defence Force (CDF Security), Fidelity ADT, Bassett Burglar Alarms, Boston Community Improvement District (Boston CID), Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District (VRCID), and Zonewatch.
