The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has joined forces with five other political parties in a bid to unseat the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape during the upcoming general elections in May.
PA leader Gayton McKenzie expressed confidence that the DA would lose its majority in the province. However, he did not rule out the possibility of the PA entering into a coalition with the DA.
The alliance was announced during a press briefing where McKenzie highlighted the influence and strong community-based constituencies of each party. The alliance includes Advieskantoor, led by Leon Campher; the Karoo Gemeenskap Party, led by Goliath Lottering; the Karoo Democratic Force, led by Noël Constable; the Oudtshoorn Gemeenskap, Inisiatief, led by Colan Sylvester; and Witzenberg Aksie, led by Gert Laban.
McKenzie asserted that the PA, along with its alliance partners, would be successful in the province and would bring about a change in government. He responded to DA leader John Steenhuisen's remarks about smaller parties, stating that the PA is open to forming a coalition with the DA, Action SA, or any other party, emphasizing that agreements would be based on mutual understanding and commitment rather than personal agendas.
